Chapter 1:  The Work of Film Production

This is chapter is just to give you some notion of how a film is produced.  I won't test you on the machinery
or the terms, except the following :
  • What is involved in the three stages of film production respectively: 'Preproduction', 'Shooting', and 'Postproduction'?
  • The nature of work of these roles:  'director', 'producer', 'production designer', 'script supervisor', 'first assistant director'
  • The meaning of these terms: 'treatment', 'shooting script', 'optical sound', 'spotting', 'dailies or rushes', 'answer print', 'vertical integration', 'aspect ratio'

  • You may ignore the debates on the author. Just remember that nowadays we use the director's name as the representative of the collective effort of the whole production team of a film
